I thought it would be good if we could have information for the planets here at jnet. This could be for new members that don't know as much as me and you; so we can help them out here instead of starwars.com.
Rules:
1. Only one planet posted at a time.
2. It must be truthful and in depth.
3. Don't copy straight from a source.
Replies to previous posts are welcom.
This could be fun and enlightning!
I'll start:
Dagobah
A remote planet of swamps, Dagobah hides millions of life forms. This inhospitable planet provided a good hiding place during the days of the Empire.
Some interesting species include:
Bog-wing: Growing up to 5 metres long, the bog-wing spends its life in constant flight to avoid predators.
How are babies born, I hear you say
They are born in mid air and must learn to fly straight away.
Vine Snake: This large snake hides in trees, from which it drops onto its prey, crushing its victim.
Nudj: This mainly harmless creature appears larger and fiercer than it really is. This small lizard is force-sensitive.
Knobby Spider: This slow moving creature is in its intermediate stage of development of a Gnarl Tree.
It spends its days storing up food and finding a place to put down its roots it uses as legs.
Yoda decided to make his home on Dagobah, knowing the force would protect him from the creatures around him, while these creatures would protect him from unwanted visitors.
Fact File:
Planet: Dagobah
Terrain: Swamps
Species: Jungle Wildlife
Language: N/A
Atmosphere: Oxygen Mix
Points of interest: Yoda's Hut, Cave of Evil

| ^ Great idea! ... The coolest Dagobah fact based story I read is in an art book with McQuarie (sp?) drawings that depicted a team of scientists from the old Republic that got stranded on the planet. It was written journal style and had alot of info on Dagobah. The party never returned home though as the Empire rose thier expedition was forgotten and thus ... they perished. |

Ahh....nice info, Rijos. *And RN, as this is losts of information, I am sorry, but I will not post it in Pig Latin .*
Here's one of my faves:
Kamino
A mysterious ocean world, located beyond the Outer Rim (12 parsecs south of the Rizi. It's files were erased from the Jedi archives, but it is a mystery who erased it. Obi-Wan Kenobi visited the planet to solve the mystery behind it.
Key species:
Kaminoans - tall, thin, and can see in spectrums beyond visible light.
Creatures
aiwha - swimming and flying, these creatures are native to Kamino and Naboo. They have large wings and are omnivores.
Climate/Environment
Constant rain and storms/ocean world, cities emerge on the surface.
General Info
Capital: Tipoca City (emerges from the ocean on stilts)
Prime Minister: Lama Su
Other important residents: Jango Fett, Boba Fett, Taun We
Interesting Info: Kaminoans are cloners, and are currently creating a clone army for the Republic (which was ordered by "Sifo-Dyas")
History: Once having land, the polar ice caps of Kamino melted and flooded the planet

Dantooine
Sector or Region: Outer Rim Territories
System: Dantooine System
Points of Interest: Abandoned Rebel Base
Species: Dantari
Terrian: Grasslands, Steppes
Language: Dantarian
Role In The Galaxy: Old Jedi Training Center & Old Rebel Base
The world of Dantooine is a world that is far removed from most galactic traffic, and is an olive, blue, and brown planet that has no industrial settlements or advanced technology. The surface is covered with empty steppes, savannas of lavender grass, and spiky blba tress. The planet has two moons and abundant animal life, that includes: herds of hairy beasts, simple balloon-like creatures, and mace flies. The primitive nomadic tribesmen, the Dantari move along the coasts, and there numbers are so few that the planet is essentially uninhabited. Almost some 4,000 years before the Galactic Civil War, the Jedi Master VodoSiosk Baas established a training center among Dantooine's ruins, where he instructed Exar Kun and the Cathar warriors Crado and Sylvar. Almost a millennia later the world served as a base for the Rebel Alliance untill it was evacuated in one day's time after an Imperial tracking device was found hidden in a cargo shippment. Then some 11 years later fifty colonists from Eol Sha were relocated to the planet, but a group of Admiral Daala's AT-AT Walkers wiped them out.

Kashyyyk
Sector : Mid rim
System : Kashyyyk
Climate : Temperate
Species : Wookiees
Language : Shyriiwook
Terrain : Wroshyr forest, jungle, dense forests.
Population : 6 million
On Kashyyyk, the forests have unquestioned dominance. Ancient trees rise kilometers into the air, and it is possible to live a long life on the upper boughs never once having seen the forest floor. Most inhabitants count this as a blessing, as the further you descend, the more deadly the environment becomes. Terrible creatures lurk in that chaotic realm, and even with the aid of advanced technology it is difficult to survive for any length of time. Only the bravest of hunters dare to descend, and only the luckiest of those return.
It is a savage world, but it is also home to the fierce and loyal Wookiee species. They have a long-established system of tribal villages in the forest canopy, building among the highest branches. Direct confrontation between separate communities is rare, with dominance and stature traditionally decided by ritual hunts. The practice is in decline, however, as recent events have seen outside forces become more of a threat. Already surrounded by a plethora of natural enemies, the added complication of off-world interference has been very disruptive to Wookiee society.
The village of Rwookrrorro is the most important among the Wookiee tribes, and is currently led by the black-furred Chuundar (CHOON-dar). Unlike his predecessors, he seems bent on expanding the reach of his power through whatever means he can exploit. Regarded suspiciously by his people, he has abandoned many of their traditional ways, and seems less concerned with what most Wookiees value above all else: honor. He remains unchallenged by carefully manipulating the fears of his people.
Despite the untamed nature that encases Kashyyyk, Chuundar's actions have allowed outside interests to gain a foothold. The near-limitless Czerka Corporation has established a series of small spaceports under the guise of searching the forests for unique resources. Such expeditions would normally be tremendously expensive, but the company has found a brutally efficient cost-saving measure: slave labor. This foul trade has begun in earnest, with some local inhabitants all too willing to assist.

Planet: Myrkr
Terrain:Forests, low mountains, plains
Climate: Temperate
Species: Humans, Neti
Language: Basic
Points of Interest: Hyllyard City
Location: Edge of the Inner Rim
Interesting Species
Ysalamir:
A salamander like, tree dweller which lives in a self created Force vacant bubble. This is a defence mechanism, since Vornskrs hunts via the Force. The Ysalamiri become connected to the tree, and thus special care must be taken to remove the creature from the tree without killing it.
Vornskr:
A wolf like predator with sharp teeth and a whiplike tale. This predator hunts via the force, and was brought in to help hunt Jedi. The tail contains a mild poison which paralyzes it's prey.
The high metal content of the tree's obscure sensor readings.
The planet was first settled about 300 Pre Empire by the Old Republic, and remained unnoticed before then. Myrkr has a 24-hour day, and a 324-local-day year. _________________

Hoth
A remote, frozen planet on the outskirts of the galaxy. Not near the Unknown Regions but more in the areaof Bespinand Naboo.
The planet is in inhabited only by wandering tauntauns...
... and large bear-like wampas.
At one time the Rebel base, Echo Base, was hidden in a mountain side but was abandoned shortly after the Battle of Hoth. Its ruins still remain on the planet.
I have more info on different plants and other stuff at my Sta Wars web site, The Coruscant Achives
Its work in pogress so don't expect toooooo much. _________________ "Not even Xena can outlast the awsome power of the Darth Maul lightsabre from 'Star Wars Episode I . . . The Phantom Menace" - The Comic Guy

Why not start an alien database and make it sticky also. I am planning on doing a referance between the movies and the source books for the RPG to look at the alien races, and see if I can ID them all, I may come accross some that I will need help on. A format like this would be good:
Name: Chev
Homeworld: Vinsoth
Personality: Complacent quiet and reserved, have suffered years of slavery making them protective.
Physical Description:Near Human with Pail white to grey skin, large black lidless eyes, slightly shorter than humans, dress in practical clothes.
Supply image if you wish. _________________

Coruscant
Coruscant, the entire planet is one big city. The planet is located in the Core and is said to be the center of the universe. This deamed its quardinents 0,0,0.
Coruscant has been the capital of every major faction since before the Republic, through the Empire and the later New Republic. THe planet is home to some of the galaxies most beautiful buildingds. At night or from space Coruscant gives off a golden glow because of all the lights from the towering buildings. Aat a closer range, the senate building of the Republic and the Jedi Temple were magnificent sites. Those buildings unfortuneatly perished.
Coruscant is the planet the human race was born onto. Throughout the years species of all kind flocked to the planet as the galaxy seemed to get bigger and bigger. During the days of the Republic one could find all sorts of creatures on the planet surface from Ryn to Wookie. Once the Empire was formed Emperor Palpatine forced all non-humans off the surface, holding great predjudice and discust for all non-humans.
The planet is encased by an impresive planetary shield protecting it to the largest attack. Most of the fleet of the dominant faction is usually orbiting the planet in a time of war, to prevent the enemy army from even reaching the shield.
Over the years Coruscant has recieved a huge beating from Ysanne Isard pummeling up from the core of the planet and through the surface with her Super-Star Destroyer Lusankya to the Yuuzhan Vong's brutal take-over. The beautiful horizon that was once seen on Coruscant was now the remade Yuuzhan Vong homeworld, Yuuzhan'tar. . . _________________ "Not even Xena can outlast the awsome power of the Darth Maul lightsabre from 'Star Wars Episode I . . . SULON
A small moon orbiting Sullust. It's wonderful climate is home to one of the most powerful Jedi in the Galaxy, Kyle Katarn. It is also home to the G-Tap, a valuable Tree which the farmers on Sulon need to keep the crops alive.
System: Sullust
Species: Human, Mailoc, G-Tap- Water giving tree-valuable resource
Leading industry: Farming
Climate: Warm
Geography: Grasslands, hills, canyons
Capital City: Baron's Hed
Places of interest: Baron's Hed
Feul City
Morgan Katarn's home
People of Interest: Kyle Katarn, Morgan Katarn
First appearance: Star Wars Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight (video game)
Star Wars Dark Forces Part I: Soldier for the Empire (novel)
History: Less than five years before the destruction of the first Death Star,
worker Morgan Katarn helped relocate refugees of Sulon to the planet Ruusan. When he returned, he had with him a map to the Valley of the Jedi, an ancient battleground hidden on Ruusan. He also had with him a lightsaber which was given to him by a Jedi in hiding on Ruusan, which he planned to give to his son, Kyle Katarn, who was attending the Imperial Acedemy. But he was not aware of Morgan's secret Rebel Symapthies.
4 years later, the Empire came to Sulon to take the valuable G-Tap. They attacked farmers, disguised as Rebel soldiers, under the command of the Dark Jedi, Jerec. Morgan discovered the truth about the attacking soldiers and rallied everyone he could. The battle was long and hopeless, and the Empire took control of Sulon. Morgan was killed by Jerec himself. Kyle learned that his father was murdered but the Empire covered it up by saying it was Rebels who had done it. Kyle soon learned the truth from Jan Ors, a rebel pilot. Kyle left the Empire and joined the Alliance in an oath to take revenge on the one who had done it.
During the remaining years of the Galactic Civil War, Jerec built a palace where he could reside, in the very heart of the capital city, Baron's Hed.
Three years after the War, Kyle was retrieving information on his father's death from the driod 8t-88, in hopes of finally having his revenge. The driod showed Kyle a disc which he had found in Morgan's home. 88, however revealed he was working for the Empire and Kyle was nearly killed trying to retrieve the disc. When he returned home with the disc, he investigated his father's ransacked home. He found Morgan's workshop, and discovered the lightsaber which Morgan intended to give to him. The disc uncovered the location of the map to the Valley, but the map was already taken by Jerec's men, and was to be decifered by 88, himself. Kyle became more attuned to the Force and went to retrieve the map that was in 88's posession.
He arrived in Baron's Hed with Jan and they took down the Imperial forces that had over run the city. Kyle broke into the palace but the map was destroyed by a young Dark Jedi Yun who was assigned to protect 88. The two battled and 88 had gotten away. Kyle defeated Yun but spared his life. He and jan chased 88 to Fuel City and Kyle hopped onboard the Imperial Cargo ship which 88 was onboard in order to get the map. He did just that with the map stored in 88's memory. He battled two more Jedi onboard the ship and killed them.
After Kyle and Jan discovered the planet of the Valley of the Jedi, they went to Ruusan in hopes of defeating Jerec.
Years passed and eventually the New Republic defeated all the Remnant troops that infested Baron's Hed and Fuel City. The government of Sulon was restored under Republic influence and Sulon became peaceful once again. _________________ ------<ShaaniC>------ |

Ruusan
A desert planet, similiar to Tatooine in many aspects, that plays a very significant role in the battle between the Jedi and the Dark Side.
It is home to the Valley of the Jedi, an ancient battleground where thousands of Jedi souls are trapped.
System: Ruusan
Species: "Floaters," Mailoc, Human colonists
Leading Industry: unknown
Climate: Hot, Dry
Geography: Desert, canyons, valleys
Capital City: Fort Nowhere
Places of Interest: Fort Nowhere
Valley of the Jedi
First Appearance: Star Wars Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight (videogame)
History:
For a long time, Ruusan was a planet that was uninhabited, and had no significance. Until the Jedi and Sith came.
During the Great Sith War, the Jedi made a hidden base on Ruusan. Because of its remote location, it would be hard to track them there. Eventually, the Sith did find their evil counterparts and they battled a great, bloody battle on the dunes and canyons.
In a great valley, the Jedi and Sith fought the last battle, and the two armies that were on that planet, completely annihilated eachother. But eventually, the souls of all the warriors became trapped within the very center of the Jedi's base. It was now known, as the Valley of the Jedi. The souls that rested there were to be trapped for the rest of eternity until an ancient prophesy was fulfilled.
And a Knight will come.
A battle will be faught.
And the Prisoners go free.
For 4 000 years, the planet was quiet. Then, a Jedi Knight known as Rahn came to the planet by himself and kept quiet by himself. The Jedi was hiding from the Galactic Empire, who had already killed almost every Jedi in the Galaxy. 4 years before the first Death Star was destroyed, a large group of refugees from the planet Sulon, led by Morgan Katarn, moved to Ruusan. They too were in hiding from the Empire. It was there they started a small city called Fort Nowhere. Morgan discovered Rahn while investigating the planet for his own interest. He also met a strange species of floating bubbles, which he called "Floaters." He learned of the Valley's power and was given Rahn's lightsaber, in order to give it to his son Kyle.
Rahn and Morgan left Ruusan. Morgan took with him the green lightsaber and the location to the Valley of the Jedi which he planned to hide.
Rahn, however, was later found and killed by Jerec, a Dark Jedi who worked for the Empire and who was searching for the Valley. Earlier, Morgan, too was killed for being a Rebel sympathist. Although his son was attending the Imperial Acedemy.
The location to the Valley was later discovered by Jerec, 3 years after the Galactic Civil War. He lead his Imperial troops to Ruusan and destroyed Fort Nowhere with the 4 Dark Jedi who followed him.
Later, however, the Jedi in training, Kyle Katarn came to Ruusan with his partner Jan Ors. Together they slowly beat the Remnant forces with the few remaining civilians of Fort Nowhere.
Kyle and Jan met the "Floaters" who told Kyle of where the Valley was. While Kyle and Jan were led to the Valley, Yun, youngest of the Dark Jedi, ran into the ghost of Rahn. He told Yun that he had a part to play in this battle, for good or evil. His actions could change the fate of the Galaxy.
Kyle and Jan were taken to the Valley where they split up. In the meantime, Jerec arrived with his Dark Jedi, so they could travel into the Valley core and unlock the power and become like gods.
While Kyle was infiltrating the Imperial outposts that were scattered accross the Valley, excavating the site, Jan was captured and taken prisoner. Kyle eventually ran into the Dark Jedi, Maw. Kyle battled hard but through Maw's intimidation of Kyle's murdered father, Kyle slaughtered the Jedi in pure rage. Jerec and the remaining Jedi appeared with Jan and ordered Kyle to strike her down. Kyle refused.
He was thrown into a cargo ship that was docked high above the surface, and then began to fall towards the surface. With only a limited time, Kyle found his ship, the Moldy Crow, and escaped, but when he was escaping, Kyle crashed not too far from the cargo ship.
He was eventually taken from his ship and was about to be executed by Sariss, the greatest fighter out of all of Jerec's minions. Boc, another Jedi, destroyed Kyle's lightsaber. When Sariss was to deliver the finishing blow, Yun ran to save Kyle. With his last words, he said "He is a Jedi. He deserves a battle."
And with that, Yun died in the Light Side of the Force. Kyle took Yun's lightsaber and defeated Sariss.
Jerec, Jan and Boc finally entered the Valley core. Jerec became more powerful and was sucked into the core itself.
Kyle ran through the Valley and finally found Jan, but was attacked by Boc, who wielded two lightsabers. Kyle slew the Twi'Lek and was sucked into the core with Jerec.
Finally, Kyle defeated the Dark Lord and saved the spirits, and fulfilled the prophesy.
Five years later, Kyle and Jan were the only ones who knew about the Valley's location. Kyle has given up his Jedihood and returned to his mercenary ways for the Republic. But when he believes Jan was killed by a Dark Jedi named Desann and his apprentice, Tavion, Kyle returns to Ruusan and takes the power of the Valley in order to have his revence. But just as Kyle leaves, Desann and Tavion reveal that they planned to kill Jan to make Kyle insane and take the power in revenge, in order to find out where the Valley was.
They took their own Remnant troops empowered them with the Force, becoming Reborn. And the strongest of the warriors became the Shadowtroopers, Dark Jedi who wore Kortosis armour, made by Galak Fyarr.
Luke Skywalker learned of the Valley location from Kyle and chased away the Reborn and Shadowtrooper with the help of Rogue Squadron, but Desann was about to make his next move....
The Valley was eventually sealed off under Republic Law.[/b] _________________ ------<ShaaniC>------ |

Geonosis:
A desert planet, less than a parsec away from Tatooine, Geonosis is a ringed planet home to the native insectoid Geonosians. The Geonosians have brought many creatures to the harsh world, including Acklays, Nexus, and Reeks.
System: Tatoo
Species: Geonosians
Leading Industry: Raw Materials
Climate: Hot, dry, uncomfortable by human standards
Geography: Rocky mesas, desert, and spires
Places of Interest: None
First Appearance: Episode II: Attack of the Clones
History:
A deselate planet originally home only to Geonosians, deadly creatures were transported to Geonosis after hyperspace was brought to the galaxy. Traders brought Reeks, Acklays, Nexus, and other strange but deadly beasts. The animals adapted to the environment, and became a considerably large source of food for the Geonosians. Known for the droid and ship building, the insectoid beings became well established as pilots, but not warriors in hand-to-and combat.
The only major event that is recorded to have happened on Geonosis is the beginning battle of the Clone Wars. After capturing Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi Council sent a taskforce of 200 Jedi to rescue Kenobi. The Geonosians retaliated to the attacking Jedi by releasing an incredible army of droids. Hope of a victory seemed unlikely for the Jedi, until Master Yoda arrived with reinforcements. The Republic defeated the Geonosians and the Seperatists, but Count Dooku and Poggle the Lesser escaped.
After the Republic defeated the Seperatists in the Clone Wars, they set up an outpost on Geonosis to monitor all activity, though once the Empire rose to power the outpost was abandoned. _________________

Wayland
A lush, undeveloped world, Wayland is covered with mountains and forest. It is divided into several continents, but only two have settlements.
System: Colvib
Species: Myneyrshi, Psadan
Leading Inudstry: Unknown
Climate: Temperate
Geography: Forest, mountains, ocean
Places of Interest: Mount Tantiss
First Appearance: Heir to the Empire
History:
A simple error in the Old Republic planetary registry lost the planet Wayland from all known charts, and doomed the vessel seeking to settle a colony there. Once on Wayland, the colonists were on their own, completely forgotten in the unfathomable bureaucracy of the Republic.
This was the start of misfortune for the intrepid colonists. Their vessel crashed upon arrival. Though the colonists persevered, and for a time, developed a pleasant life in the Wayland environments, the lack of resupply vessels meant that many of their modern innovations fell into disrepair. The human colonists regressed technologically, discarding their blasters for bows and arrows, their modern fabrics for furs and hides.
The colonists clashed with the two native intelligence species on Wayland, the crystal-skinned Myneyrshi and the lumpy armor-plated Psadans. While the humans at first dominated the more primitive species, as the colonists regressed, the struggle became more even-sided.
Centuries later, Palpatine discovered Wayland. He took special interest in the isolated world, and visited it himself. For security purposes, he commanded that its absence from official documentation continue. Wayland was to become one of Palpatine's trophy worlds, a secret and safe repository for his rare treasures and prized pieces of technology.
After the rise of the Empire, Imperial engineers hollowed out a storeroom within Mount Tantiss, and the Emperor installed a powerful Force-wielding Guardian to protect the trove. Years later, the insane Jedi clone Joruus C'baoth boasted proudly that he killed the Guardian and took his place, however the ravings of a mad clone are not to be taken at face value. It is more than likely that Joruus C'baoth was the original Guardian, though the truth has been lost to time.
The Guardian used his power to force the inhabitants of the world to live together peacefully. Humans, Psadans and Myneyrshi built a city to the southwest of Mount Tantiss, though their tensions never truly subsided.
Mount Tantiss was located in Wayland's northern hemisphere, near the edge of its main continent. Rediscovered by Grand Admiral Thrawn, the Mount Tantiss storehouse contained the tools he needed to retake the Core Worlds from the New Republic. In addition to a working prototype of a modern cloaking shield, Mount Tantiss hid thousands of Spaarti cloning cylinders. The Spaarti cylinders -- refinements of Kaminoan technology developed on Cartao during the Clone Wars -- became a nearly unlimited source of new stormtroopers for Thrawn to use.
The Mount Tantiss complex had only one entrance, located on the southwest side. The peak of the complex held an emergency shuttle hangar, the royal chambers, and the Emperor's throne room with a 20-meter wide hologram of the galaxy. The fully functioning Spaarti cloning cylinder chamber sat inside a vast natural cavern many stories high. Thrawn had hundreds of Force-blocking ysalamiri transplanted to the cloning chamber to prevent any negative side effects from the rapid pace of his clone growth. The cloning complex and most of the mountains were destroyed when Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca sabotaged the central equipment column.
While investigating the ruins of Mount Tantiss, New Republic researchers found evidence that implicated the Bothans in the tragic destruction of Caamas, decades earlier. This sparked off political tensions that nearly brought the New Republic to civil war.
The Noghri, transplanted from their doomed world of Honoghr, built a colony on Wayland called New Nystao. The Yuuzhan Vong would come to attack this new home, causing much damage, though casualties were minimal. _________________

Altyr 5
System: Altyr
Species: natural species unknown, Human Colonists
Leading industry: unknown
Climate: Breezy, calm, dry
Geography: Canyons, Valleys, Mountains
Capital City: unknown
Places of Interest:Republic Installation (abondond)
First Appearance: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith
History:
Little is known about the fifth moon of the Altyr system. It's rocky valleys and mountainous surface is riddled with abondoned mines.
Some believe that it took part in the Great Sith War.
However, it is a perfect hiding place. Which is why, 5 years after the Galactic Civil War, the New Republic placed an outpost on the moon to moniter any strange activity in the area.
2 months after the installation was founded, however, the Remnant attacked the outpost with the superlasers disguised as asteroids.
Kyle Katarn, the base leader and Jedi at the outpost, destroyed the asteroids, but not without a cost.
Many of the valleys and canyons that covered the planet were turned to rubble and the Republic outpost had been nearly crushed. Knowing that the Remnant would know-doubtedly send the location of the outpost to it's leaders, the base was abondoned and left to rust.
Not much is now known of the planet, or if it will play a vital role in the war against the Yuuzhan Vong.
So for the meantime, the planet remains quiet......... _________________ ------<ShaaniC>------ |

Kessel
A lumpy asteroid mass that can barely be considered a planet, Kessel is a frigid barren world that cannot even hold its own atmosphere.
System: Kessel/ Maw
Species: Voracious Energy Spider, various slave species
Leading Industry: Glitterstim
Climate: Frigid
Geography: Deselate salt flats, barren rock, and dark caverns
Places of Interest: None
First Mention: Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
History:
A lumpy asteroidal mass that can barely be considered a planet, Kessel's claim to infamy lies in the precious strands of glitterstim spice that striates the otherwise unremarkable rock of the frigid world.
The Outer Rim planet is too small to hold an atmosphere of its own, so its surface is marked by massive air-producing factories that belch out breathable air. Despite these measures, the air is still too thin to breathe without oxygen masks, and the factory's output eventually bleeds away into space, leaving a vaporous trail behind Kessel as it orbits its bleak and distant sun.
The term "spice" has come to describe a wide variety of stimulants mined or processed from a number of worlds, but the glitterstim found on Kessel is easily the most valuable. Not only a euphoric psychotropic drug beneficial in therapeutic uses, the photoactive fibrous strands imbue a user with a temporary increase in latent telepathy. This, combined with the rarity of the substance, makes it incredibly valuable --- valuable enough to kill and die for.
When the Empire rose to power, it took control of the spice mining operations, cutting into the profits of a number of underworld enterprises. The Empire constructed a correctional facility on Kessel's blighted surface where criminals and political prisoners were forced to toil in freezing underground caves to extract the spice. Since the spice would be activated by any light whatsoever, the indentured miners had to work in absolute darkness as they harvested the precious strands.
Faulty breathmasks, malfunctioning heating gear, sudden cave-ins and wrong turns were not the only threats an unfortunate miner could face. It was discovered that the source of the spice was a species of voracious energy spider that spun the spice strands as a form of web. A hapless miner that wandered too deep into a cave bearing a spice vein could find himself impaled by a spider, and have his life energy completely sucked out in mere moments.
When not in the darkness of the mines, a criminal could find little hope in looking to the stars above Kessel. Not only was the system adequately guarded, but the skies were dominated by the startling display of the Maw Cluster, an unlikely conglomeration of black holes that would forever remind any souls on Kessel of their inescapable mortality.
The criminal underworld still found ways to profit from the Imperial spice trade. Corrupt officials could easily be bribed to let portions of glitterstim cargoes go "missing," only to show up on Black Sun or Hutt freighters. Foolhardy smugglers looking to risk their lives for incredible profit would risk Imperial patrols near Kessel.
The term Kessel Run came to encompass a number of smuggler methods designed to separate spice cargoes from licensed Imperial shippers. One particular method saw the quick distribution of spice along a slowly moving train of cargo freighters, while another approach was just a pure contest of raw speed that skirted dangerously close to the black holes of the Maw Cluster. A smuggler that managed to shave off a sizable portion of the 18-parsec Kessel Run had bragging rights indeed.
Aside from the spice, Kessel had another strategic value. It was the gateway to the Maw Cluster, wherein resided a top-secret Imperial think-tank devised by Grand Moff Tarkin. From the scientists sequestered in this forsaken patch of chaotic space came such stunning technological breakthroughs as the finalized Death Star design, the World Devastators, the Sun Crusher, the Ionic Ring, and the Subspace Holotransciever.
Following the defeat of the Empire at Endor, a Rybet prison official named Moruth Doole seized control of the planet and the spice mining operation. Doole was in charge of the complex seven years after the Battle of Endor, when Imperial forces finally emerged from the Maw to battle the New Republic. Kessel became a battleground as experimental Imperial technologies were unleashed. An operational Death Star prototype opened fire on the planetoid, destroying its garrison moon.
In the skirmish that followed, Doole was killed and the mining complex fell to entrepreneur Lando Calrissian. He eventually turned the reigns of the operation to his friend Nien Nunb, who did away with forced labor and instead employed droid miners to harvest the spice.

This question was asked in Star Wars Insider a little while back, the reply was that it was "far, far away". No actual distance has been established. _________________

Jabiim
Jabiim is a planet made up of muddy plains, and has constant, non-stopping, rain.
System: n/a
Species: humans, various other sentients
Leading Industry: n/a
Climate: Constant rain
Geography: Muddy Plains
Places of Interest: Clone War wreckage, old battlefields
First Mention: Star Wars: Republic Comic Books
History:
Jabiim was a world that the Republic ignored until it was too late. The world had been part of the Galactic Republic for 3,000 years. It had paid its due taxes to Coruscant, but remained undefended when calamity befell it. The scourge of Brainrot Plague decimated the populace. Garrulous Trandoshan bandits invaded and occupied their lands before moving on. Lythian Pirates besieged their small communities. Each time, the Jabiimites had to defend themselves.
It came as little surprise, then, that the majority government of the Jabiim Council chose to side with the Confederacy of Independent Systems in the Clone Wars. Though there was a vocal loyalist contingent within the government, the charismatic Alto Stratus became the popular leader of the Jabiimite secessionist movement. He cited the past record of Republic apathy to fuel public support. He called upon the Jabiimites to pick up arms against the Republic.
Negotiations spearheaded by the Alderaanian Diplomatic Corps were rebuffed. Jabiim was gearing towards war. The Republic positioned their forces on nearby Handooine, ready for the strike. General Obi-Wan Kenobi was named theater commander for the campaign. Jabiim was a world rich with valuable ores -- raw material that could not fall into Separatist hands.
Jabiim is a world deluged by torrential rains. It experiences less than five days per standard year without precipitation. Its muddy surface is constantly shifting from the weight of the rains. The battlefields of Jabiim were arduous, and combatants would have to contend with the inclement conditions. The Republic could not count on air support due to electrically charged atmospheric disturbances. They instead relied on AT-XT, AT-TE and AT-AT walkers as the bulk of their mechanized assault.
The Jabiimites, having lived amidst the rain and mud, were much better suited for combat. Alto Stratus' elite guards, the Nimbus, wore specialized repulsorlift skates that allow them to glide across the molasses-like mud. This gave them a considerable edge in the combat that followed.
Supplied with armor and combat droids by the Confederacy, the Jabiimites were able to destroy the Republic's Shelter Base in the second week of hostilities. General Obi-Wan Kenobi was, for a time, believed to be killed in the attack. His apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, had to lead a group of similarly "orphaned" Padawans in an attack against the Jabiimites.
Though Stratus was ultimately defeated, his fiery rhetoric had leaked to the HoloNet, and the Confederacy spread his infectious words to many planets, further fomenting secession and rebellion. _________________

Nar Hekka
System: Y'Toub
Species: Hutt
First Mention: The Hutt Gambit
the planet [Nar Hekka] was a cold world that orbitted a dim red star on the edge of the Y'Toub system, but Hutt credits and colonies of various galactic species had transformed it into a technological wonder. Beneath enormous hothouse domes, the skies shone with a faint tinge of violet. Although the planet had little indigenous plant life, vegetation from many worlds had been transplanted and carefully cultivated. There were numerous parks, botanical gardens, and arboretums. _________________

Firrerre
System: n/a
Species: Firrerreo (see alien species sticky)
Firrerre was once a thriving planet with a clan-based society. However, when Darth Vader came and hand-picked two students from the Firrerreo, Hethrir and Rillao, things changed.
Hethrir was eager to please his master, that he ordered the extermination of his people. The Imperials released a deadly, uncureable virus into the atmosphere of the planet which destroyed all life.
Firrerreo is now a dead, quarantined planet. _________________

Rattatak
Rattatak is a remote red world in a sector of the Outer Rim undiscovered by the Republic.
System: n/a
Species: Rattataki
Leading Industry: Slave trade
Climate: n/a
Geography: n/a
Places of Interest: Gladiator Pits
First Mention: Clone Wars Cartoons
History:
The planet is so remote that it remained undiscovered by the Republic, and the native humanoid species evolved without the guidance or influence of other galactic forces. Although the species remained primitive, they quickly learned how to kill one another. Scattered resources on the planet led to struggles for survival, and the Rattataki never bothered with the benefits of barter and trade amongst themselves.
As technology evolved, the Rattataki focused all of their efforts on more brutal methods for murder. War became the norm. Over generations of fighting, most of the cities on the planet were reduced to rubble and huge portions of the planet's population became victims of mass genocide. The Rattataki never developed weapons of planetary scale, so the bloody world wars raged on for generations. The ceaseless violence prevented the world from developing space travel, and the Rattataki believed they were alone the galaxy -- they had no concept of galactic community, and only conquering their neighbors seemed important.
Those that discovered Rattatak were unscrupulous slavers common in the Outer Rim. The wiry Rattataki themselves proved to be an unpopular export – they were simply too difficult to train and too violent to contain. But credits could be made by importing slaves to the war barons, who would pay handsomely for any exotic edge in combat. Mercenary duty was a popular reason to come to Rattatak, though negotiating an end of service often was difficult.
While war continued everywhere else, an enterprising Rattataki from a rare neutral province hatched a lucrative idea. If prospective mercenaries and slave soldiers had to prove themselves in gladiatorial combat, the credits generated from the wagering and the spectacle could be used to buy more soldiers and offworld weapons.
Thus the gladiator pits of Rattatak came to be, and many sprang up in what rare patches of neutral lands could be found on the craggy world. The largest, known as the Cauldron, hosted the best combatants, and war barons and generals would attend, to seek out the soldiers that would win them their wars. Slavers filled the pits with violent candidates -- some would purposely price the more successful warriors out of the purchase range of the Rattataki generals, as their gladiators were more profitable from fighting multiple battles than being sold into military service. But it was a rare gladiator indeed who could survive multiple fights.
Shortly after the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Count Dooku ventured to Rattatak to find a worthy warrior to draft into the service of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Recognizing this as an opportunity to leave Rattatak and possibly exact vengeance on the Jedi Knights, the powerful Asajj Ventress entered the fray and emerged victorious. _________________

Aaris III
System: Unknown
Species: no sapient species
Leading industry: n/a
Geography: a lush, blue-green planet filled with warm oceans and humid jungles. Long tall mountain ranges cover the surface.
Interesting facts: Several immense ruins cover hundreds of square kilometers, adding awkward brown and gray patches to the jungle - many more ruins lie hidden by the forest canopy. The largest blight on the planet is a vast desert which seemingly appears as if it were dropped right in the middle of the equatorial jungle.
History: There are no charted settlements on Aaris and the initial survey team left only a standard Imperial marker beacon. _________________

Mandalore
System: Mandalore System
Species: Taung=Mandalorians
Leading industry: n/a
Geography: Almost all of it is rainforest.
Points of Intrest: Fenn Shysa's resistance camp
History: Taungs under the leadership of Mandalore the First settled the planet prior to 7,000 BBY. They drove the native mythosaurs to extinction, using their skeletons to construct cities of bone. The planet was named after the great leader. The Taungs thereafterwards called themselves Mandalorians. The Mandalorians traveled from Mandalore to conquer many worlds. After failing to conquer Onderon, some of them settled on Onderon's biggest moon, Dxun. _________________
